Raising this issue is the way to improve decision-making on the limitation of therapeutic efforts (LTE) in paediatric ICUs. At the root of the problem lies the fact that, at present, decisions regarding LTE are unilateral and should be a more inclusive process, involving both the family and other members of the healthcare team. The aim is to find out what professionals think: what they do, how they do it and what could be done better to further involve the families and nursing staff. |

Dignity in death is a right that everyone deserves and is taken to mean the right to receive appropriate and proportional care. This situation gives rise to an ethical dilemma between dysthanasia and LTE (between what one would like to do and what should be done). |
