OH-CEEA-UAB
The Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (CEEA) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) has been authorised by the Government of Catalonia (competent body) to carry out the retrospective evaluation of animal experimentation projects. The OH-CEEA-UAB will evaluate projects based on the requirements of article 34 of Royal Decree 53/2013 and will send the applicant a report with the result of the evaluation.
This body is governed by its regulations, approved on 23 March 2017 by the Governing Council, and by Royal Decree 53/2013, of 1 February, and applies the rates approved by the Board of Trustees for the provision of its services.
OH-CEEA-UAB will send a detailed annual report of its activities to the competent body (in the Government of Catalonia), stating all the projects it has evaluated, or evaluated retrospectively. All this documentation must be available to the competent body for 5 years.
Retrospective evaluation
OH-CEEA-UAB will carry out the retrospective evaluation of projects that include severe or moderate procedures (if established in the authorisation) and for cases that, during the evaluation of the project, it has been deemed appropriate. For this retrospective evaluation, the researcher must present the documentation collected during the research project, and thus the OH will be able to evaluate:
-
Whether the objectives of the project have been achieved
-
Whether the animals suffered
-
The number and species used
-
Severity
-
Improvements made through replacement, reduction and refinement.
