Biobanks

Royal Decree 1716/2011, of 18 November, which establishes the operation of biobanks, defines these facilities as establishments (public or private) that contain biological samples of human origin for biomedical research purposes and whose function is to share these samples among interested researchers.

In accordance with their vocation for public service, the consent of the subjects of the samples must be provided in full knowledge of this circumstance and in broader terms also in full knowledge of the use and objective of the research to be carried out.

The degree of vagueness of this consent will vary depending on the objectives of the Biobank and will be reflected in the corresponding informed consent (template).
