Diego Blas Temiño, researcher at the UAB Department of Physics and at the IFAE, has been awarded the Buchalter Prize in Cosmology for his research on gravitational waves.

Once again, and on the occasion of the Nobel Prizes awarded in 2022, the Faculties of Sciences and Biosciences are celebrating the "Talks around Science". The event will take place next December 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the "Sala d'Actes" of the Faculties of Biosciences and Sciences.

The programme, coordinated by the ICFO, aims to develop technologies for the future quantum internet. In addition to the UAB, the IFAE, the ICN2, the UB and the UPC are participating in the programme.

UAB researchers have developed a magnetic material capable of imitating the way the brain stores information. The material makes it possible to emulate the synapses of neurons and mimic, for the first time, the learning that occurs during deep sleep.

As time passes, glass restructures itself towards more stable configurations which can affect its properties. Given that glass has numerous practical applications, knowing how this transition takes place is highly relevant. Researchers from the UAB Department of Physics and from the ICN2 explain how they studied the details of glass transition and observed how the restructuring of glass when turning into liquid is not always a homogeneous process, depending more on the temperature instead of the initial stability of the glass

Scientists from the Physics Department of the UAB and CERES have developed a new concept of LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) that allows more precise measurement of the distance at which different components of the atmosphere are found. The new tool can improve the study of the gamma rays of the Universe by the MAGIC telescopes from the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory

Groundwaters circulating through the subsoil as a result of the melting permafrost can transport carbon dioxide and methane—gases with a strong greenhouse effect—to Arctic lakes, and this increases the effects of climate change. This process of transporting gases to the lakes, which culminates with their emission into the atmosphere, is now quantified for the first time in a paper co-authored by the UAB and published in the journal Nature Communications.
