The Open Science Advisory Committee
Formation
The Research, Transfer and Innovation Committee at its meeting held on May 23, 2024 approved the creation of an Open Science Advisory Committee to comply with the open science strategy approved by the Governing Council at its January 29, 2024 meeting. At the same meeting, the suppression of the Open Access Board, created in 2013 to comply with the UAB's institutional open access policy, was also approved, since it had been surpassed by the legal framework, the requirements of the funding organizations and the open science policies that encompass not only open access but all the axes of open science.
Open Science Advisory Committee
The Composition of the Open Science Advisory Committee is as follows:
a) Vice-rectors with responsibilities in matters of Research, Innovation and Knowledge transfer. Among them, the position of president will be occupied by the vice-rector responsible for open science.
b) The Deputy Executive Administrator for Research.
c) The Head of Institutional Projects Office or the person designated by the Rector for these functions
d) The director of the Library Service who holds the position of secretary.
e) The director of the Research Ethics Committee.
f) The director of the Publications Service.
g) The rector's delegate in Information and Communication Technologies policies, or whomever he delegates.
h) Six members of academic staff from different fields.
The functions of the Open Science Advisory Committee are:
a) To promote the open science strategy at the UAB and guarantee the compliance with its commitments, aligning with the existing strategic plans for open science at Catalan, national and European level.
b) To propose the Action Plan for open science in accordance with the commitments of the UAB, current legislation, the requirements of the research funding and evaluation agencies and the trends and/or guidelines of the organizations promoting open science worldwide.
c) To evaluate and to monitor the Open Science Action Plan.
d) To inform the UAB Research, Transfer and Innovation Committee of the actions carried out in the Action Plan, as well as to submit for approval the policies to encourage and promote open science practices at the University.
e) To advise on open science matters to other areas of the University.
f) To inform and to advise the Research, Transfer and Innovation Committee on the impact of open science on research projects.
g) To promote, if appropriate, the commission of reports to evaluate the degree of implementation of the different axes of open science at the UAB.
h) To make proposals and recommendations on measures to promote open science among UAB staff.
i) To raise awareness and to provide training, through workshops, seminars and training sessions, to make the university community aware of the principles and benefits of open science.
j) To assume other functions that the Research, Transfer and Innovation Committee, or the competent one in matters of open science at the UAB may delegate.
The internal operating regime of the Open Science Advisory Committee (Agreement of the Research, Transfer and Innovation Committee on May 23, 2024) defines the Committee and establishes its functions and operation.
The Action Plan is the Committee's roadmap detailing the actions to be carried out at the UAB promoting open science. Highlighted below are some of the actions achieved by the Open Access Board (2013-2024):
- Development of the Institutional Open Access Policy of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
- Drafting and approval of the Institutional Open Access Policy for Research Data at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
- Signing of the Berlin Declaration.
- ORCID implementation.
- Preparation of the document: Creative Commons Licenses Recommended in the UAB.
- Open dissemination of UAB journals and academic monographs.
