Sebastià Sánchez Juan Collection

Sebastià Sánchez-Juan (1904–1974) was a Catalan poet and copy editor. He worked as a proofreader for newspapers such as La Nau and El Matí. In the early stages of his poetic career, he aligned himself with the Futurist movements that emerged in Catalonia. In 1922, he published the Second Futurist Manifesto under the pseudonym David Cristià, and two years later, his first book, Fluid, was released, clearly demonstrating his avant-garde leanings. Other titles from this period include Constel·lacions (1927), Elegies (1928), Divagacions (1929), and Poemes de promès (1933).

During the 1940s, Sánchez-Juan began publishing poetry in Spanish, with works such as Soneto (1949) and Blanco y rosicler (1946). In the 1950s, he returned to writing in Catalan, producing notable works from this later period, including Principat del temps (1961) and Escaiences (1974).

In 1936, he won the Gold and Silver Viola at the Jocs Florals de Barcelona for his poem Cinc avemaries, and in 1951, he was awarded the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona for poetry with his work Claror.

The collection, donated by the Sánchez Bosch family to the Humanities Library, has been catalogued through the collaboration of the Library and the Department of Catalan Philology.
