Santiago Pey Collection
Santiago Pey (Barcelona, 1917-2001) was a distinguished designer and philologist. His contributions to the world of design were both extensive and varied. In the late 1940s, he opened a modern furniture shop and trained as a project designer and interior decorator. By 1959, he had ventured into industrial design, creating items such as chairs, radios, televisions, and tiles.
In 1964, he established the specialisations in industrial design and interior design at the Escola Massana, where he also lectured. He was also well-known as a speaker, author of DIY and decoration manuals, and translator of numerous industrial design books from German into Catalan and Spanish.
In the field of philology, Santiago Pey focused primarily on lexicography. In 1970, he co-published a thesaurus of synonyms with Emili Vallès, and in 1972, he released the Diccionari de sinònims, idees afins i antònims: amb vocabulari de barbarismes.
