Instituto Camões collection / Giovanni Pontiero Prize
The Centre for Portuguese Language / Instituto Camões in Barcelona, together with the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the UAB, annually organises the Giovanni Pontiero Translation Prize. This prize aims to honour the figure of Giovanni Pontiero (1932-1996), a British translator who, in addition to serving as a professor of Latin American literature at the University of Manchester, conducted research in the field of Portuguese and Brazilian literary studies. His career was internationally recognised with awards such as The Independent Foreign Fiction Award in 1993 and the Teixeira-Gomes Prize granted by the Portuguese government in 1995.
The collection includes all the works presented in the various editions of the Pontiero Prizes and was housed at the Instituto Camões in Barcelona at the UAB until 2014, when an agreement was signed to transfer the collection to the Humanities Library.
