The Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives celebrates the centenary of the iconic New York magazine with an exhibition of its covers.

Poster of the exhibition The New Yorker: 100 years of covers

On February 21, 1925, the weekly magazine The New Yorker was published for the first time. To celebrate its first century of existence, the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives is displaying on its ground floor a selection of issues from recent years, based on one of the magazine's most emblematic elements: its covers.

48 covers have been chosen that are a true visual delight and tell stories from New York and around the world: emotional, satirical, serious, and humorous covers. The passage of time, the pulse of the city, world events, and the small details of daily life are captured in these covers, all created by prestigious illustrators, some of whom come from the world of comics: Chris Ware, Malika Favre, Pascal Campion, Christoph Niemann, Ana Juan, Liniers, Barry Blitt, J.J. Sempé, Daniel Clowes, Tom Gauld, Javier Mariscal...

Visit the exhibition in the Library's lobby. If you wish to read the magazine, you will find it from 2016 on the fourth floor; earlier issues must be requested, as they are kept in the storage rooms.

You can request the list of exhibited issues via the Pregunt@ service.
