On the ground floor of the Communication Library and General Newspaper Archives, you can visit two complementary exhibitions related to Palestine and the journalism profession, available until the end of January.

Image from the exhibition No News from Palestine

"No News from Palestine" has been curated by the library, and its title aims to highlight both the current information blockade imposed on the region, which prevents international media from entering, massacres Palestinian journalists, and closes television channels, and the ongoing concern for the future of a people who have been persecuted for over 75 years. The United Nations, in its most recent reports, refers to apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide in relation to the situation.

This exhibition features documents from the UAB libraries, as well as cartoons published in the press, advertisements, and other supplementary materials. You can request the list of displayed documents via the Pregunt@ service or download it from the exhibition’s registry on the UAB Digital Document Repository, where you will also find the poster, photos, and other materials. We recommend reading the emotional introduction by Xavier Giró, a former professor of political journalism at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, and author of the book Against Neutrality: A Journalism of Peace and Struggle.

The second exhibition is titled “Silenced Voices” and has been curated by the Peace Journalism Working Group of the Journalists' Association of Catalonia. It honours journalists and other media professionals—photographers, presenters, fixers, etc.—who have been killed while reporting on the Israel-Hamas conflict, creating a mural with their photographs.

To complete the installation of this exhibition, we would like to request your collaboration: we hope you can help us replace the post-its with the name, media, and date of death of each professional with cards decorated to imitate tatreez, the traditional Palestinian embroidery. Instructions and materials are available at the library. We appreciate your support and look forward to your visit.

Additionally, the Humanities Library’s Periodicals Room will host the photography exhibition "The Invisible Resistance: Palestinian Women Against the Occupation" from December 11th to January 29th, a project by the SUDS Association.
