Naturalised Urban Rivers: New Exhibition at the UAB Periodicals Room
We are kicking off September at the Humanities Library with the exhibition Naturalised Urban Rivers, organised by the CYTED RUN network, available both virtually and in person. This travelling exhibition addresses the challenges faced by urban rivers, presenting cases, regeneration processes, and methodologies to improve the condition of aquatic ecosystems.
This September we have inaugurated a new exhibition in the Periodicals Room titled Naturalised Urban Rivers: What Would It Be Like to Live by a River with Abundant Vegetation, Clean Water, and Full of Life? This exhibition, organised as part of the CYTED RUN network, is available in both virtual and in-person formats.
RUN, Naturalised Urban Rivers, is a thematic network funded by the Ibero-American Programme for Science and Technology for Development (CYTED). Its goal is to establish a collaborative network that integrates scientific knowledge with citizen science, creating spaces that enhance environmental effectiveness and provide green recreational areas. Additionally, it develops methodologies and tools for monitoring urban, environmental, and technological advancements, optimising the efficiency of green infrastructure.
This travelling exhibition aims to highlight the scale of the issues affecting rivers under urban pressure and to discuss potential solutions for one of the most degraded ecosystems on the planet. Through various panels, it presents cases of urban rivers, regeneration processes, and applied methodologies.
In addition to the Department of Geography at UAB, the network includes participation from the RIVUS Foundation, which is conducting an interdisciplinary research project aimed at long-term monitoring of riverine ecosystems, analysing the quality of aquatic systems according to the Water Framework Directive (WFD), and studying changes in river dynamics to communicate results to the public.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the current state of urban rivers and the importance of regeneration and sustainability initiatives. We invite everyone to visit the exhibition and engage in the discussion on how we can contribute to improving our riverine ecosystems and creating greener, more sustainable cities.
