Miquel Tomàs Collection

Miquel Tomàs Ondiviela (1936-2011) was a Catalan physicist trained in Barcelona and Paris. He worked at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) from 1964 to 1967, in the High Energy Experimental Group of the Nuclear Energy Board in Madrid from 1967 to 1971, and at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona until 1975, when he moved into the private sector.

Tomàs was a pioneer in the field of high-energy physics in Spain and played a key role in establishing the Computing Centre at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, which he directed during its early years. The archive is composed of materials donated by the Tomàs Guarch family, facilitated through the Science Archives Service (CEHIC, UAB). These documents, spanning the years 1964–1974, include correspondence, administrative records, handwritten notes for courses and exams, as well as individual scientific papers. The collection is described based on the inventory and cataloguing carried out by the Science Archives Service. It is now housed in the Science and Technology Library at the UAB.

The archive was managed by Mireia Bachs and Rosa Pujol (Science and Technology Library, UAB), and Jordi Sequero and Carlos Acosta (Science Archives Service and Centre for the History of Science, CEHIC, UAB), under the coordination of Xavier Roqué (CEHIC, UAB). This initiative was supported by the Science Archives Service and funded by the research projects HAR2011-27308 "Physics, Culture and Politics in Spain" (Ministry of Science and Innovation) and HAR2014-57776-P "Physics in the Construction of Europe" (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness).

Collection description: The collection donated by the Tomàs Guarch family includes handwritten notes, correspondence, and administrative documents from the period when Miquel Tomàs worked in public research institutions.
