Occitan News Programmes. Macip-Zabala Collection
In 2002, Barcelona Television (BTV) launched weekly news programmes focused on Occitan and Aranese current affairs, produced by journalists and Occitanists Farriol Macip and Manèl Zabala. These programmes aired for eight years, from 2 February 2013 to 29 July 2021, with a total of 378 episodes.
Under the title Aranésòc, the programmes Infòc and Aranòc explored every aspect of life in the Val d’Aran, covering topics such as politics, culture, history, festivals, traditions, and local press. Many of the reports featured residents of Aranese villages, who shared insights into the customs and way of life from years gone by.
The programmes were broadcast entirely in Aranese, with Catalan subtitles, and were co-produced by BTV and ADÒC (the Association for the Dissemination of Occitania in Catalonia).
Thanks to the dedication and generosity of the creators, Farriol Macip and Manèl Zabala, and BTV, a collaboration agreement has been established, ensuring that this invaluable material is now accessible for consultation and research by scholars and Occitanists.
