Science and Technology Library

Institut d'Història de la Ciència

The collaboration of the Institute of the Institut d’Història de la Ciència with the Library of Science and Technology goes back a long way. The first signed agreement dates from December 1989, which established the conditions for the inclusion of the Borja Center Library in the holdings of the UAB Libraries.

Over the years they have never stopped working together to make a rich collection in the history of science accessible to UAB users. Thus, they collaborate in different tasks, such as the selection of new funds, the maintenance of subscriptions considered of interest or in other aspects such as dissemination and recognition. Part of the work carried out by IHC researchers consists in obtaining financial resources, either through calls for grants or sponsorships, always intended for the acquisition of documentary material to enrich the library's collection.

The history of science books, which currently reach almost 7,000 copies, the history of computing collection (nearly 1,500 copies), and the existence of unique collections, such as the Xavier Duran's dossier of scientific press or the facsimile collection of Landmarks of Science are noteworthy.

On the other hand, part of this unique documentation they keep are the so-called personal funds, obtained thanks to the management of the Institute of History of Science. Funds that the library deals with, makes available to the university community and disseminates so that they are used as much as possible.
