Science and Technology Library

Institut d'Història de la Ciència

The collaboration between the Institut d’Història de la Ciència (Institute of the History of Science) and the Science and Technology Library has a long-standing tradition. The first formal agreement, signed in December 1989, set out the conditions for incorporating the Borja Centre Library's holdings into the collections of the UAB Libraries.

Over the years, this partnership has continually strived to make a rich collection on the history of science accessible to UAB users. The collaboration extends to various areas, including the selection of new acquisitions, the maintenance of subscriptions deemed significant, and broader efforts in dissemination and recognition. A key role of IHC researchers is securing financial resources—whether through grant applications or sponsorships—dedicated to acquiring new documentary materials to enhance the library's collection.

The library's holdings are particularly notable for their breadth and uniqueness. These include nearly 7,000 volumes on the history of science, a specialised collection on the history of computing (with almost 1,500 volumes), and exceptional resources such as Xavier Duran’s scientific press dossiers and the facsimile collection Landmarks of Science.

Additionally, the library houses unique archival materials known as personal collections, acquired through the efforts of the Institut d’Història de la Ciència. These collections are curated, catalogued, and made available to the university community, ensuring they are utilised to their fullest potential.
