Seventh edition 2022

Since 2016, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has awarded the "Friends of the Libraries" prize to individuals or institutions that have made outstanding contributions to the University’s libraries. Until now, these contributions have mainly been in the form of paper-based collections, but with the nomination of the Centre for Sociological Studies on Daily Life and Work (QUIT), the Social Sciences Library also sought to recognise contributions to the digital library.

QUIT is a centre with a significant and relevant scientific output, and it was the first research centre in the social sciences to embrace open science, incorporating its output into the UAB Digital Document Repository (DDD), where its collection is one of the largest in this thematic area, growing each year since 2014.

QUIT began its activities in 1989 and was formally established as a research group in 1991. The current director is Dr Joan Miquel Verd Pericàs.

The centre focuses its activity on conducting, disseminating, and promoting research in the field of work and daily life. In this research, it emphasizes gender considerations, addressing work beyond its strictly mercantile definition, while underscoring the importance of context and the strategies of the social actors involved.

As a research centre, it has conducted studies on the labour market, labour relations, working conditions, and time analysis, both nationally and internationally, collaborating with European research teams to add a comparative dimension to its research.

In 2011, it promoted the creation of the Institute of Labour Studies (IET), which it is now a part of.
