Francesc Parcerisas Collection

Francesc Parcerisas (1944), born in Begues, Baix Llobregat, is a distinguished poet, translator, and literary critic. In 2015, he received the National Culture Prize from the Government of Catalonia in recognition of his remarkable contributions to literature. Over his career, he has also served as a professor at the Faculty of Translation at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, presided over the Association of Catalan Language Writers (1998–1999), and directed the Institution of Catalan Letters (1998–2004).

A key figure in the generation of Catalan writers of the 1970s, Parcerisas began his literary journey with Vint poemes civils (Twenty Civil Poems, 1966). His poetic achievements include L’edat d’or (The Golden Age, 1984), which received widespread critical acclaim. Alongside his poetic work, he has built a notable career as a translator of English, French, and Italian literature. Among his translations, his rendition of J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy stands out, alongside works by literary greats such as Ezra Pound, Seamus Heaney, Anaïs Nin, Doris Lessing, Cesare Pavese, and T. S. Eliot.

The collection, donated by the author himself, has been catalogued thanks to the collaboration between the Humanities Library and the Department of Catalan Philology.
