Donations
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has built significant collections across various disciplines, thanks to numerous donations. The University deeply values these contributions, recognising them as essential in enriching and shaping its academic and research resources.
To ensure that all documents included in the UAB catalogue meet the necessary standards, the UAB Library Service has developed a Donation Acceptance Policy, a summary of which we are now making available.
As a general rule, the libraries accept donations of documents that are in good physical condition and relevant to teaching and research at the UAB. A great deal of effort is made to maintain high standards when accepting donations, with careful evaluation, as doing so involves significant processing costs, staff time, and the use of limited space.
The libraries reserve the right to refuse donation offers and to exclude from their collections any donated materials that have the following characteristics:
- Duplicate copies of items already in the UAB collection, unless the number of loans or their condition justifies holding more copies.
- Documents that are already part of the CCUC collection.
- Items in poor physical condition.
- Materials that are unsuitable for academic libraries.
- Documents covering subjects not addressed by the University.
- Content that is outdated or has been replaced by more recent publications.
- Items in obsolete formats (e.g., VHS, beta, floppy disks, vinyl records).
- Incomplete works that do not contribute to UAB collections.
- Unpublished documents (e.g., theses, papers, photocopies).
- Press literature.
- Incomplete serials that do not enhance UAB collections.
- Documents available in unrestricted electronic formats.
We will review your offer and get back to you as soon as possible.
