Cristina Vicente Collection
Maria Cristina Vicente was born on 29 April 1948 in León, Spain. She obtained her degree in Biology from the University of Salamanca in 1971 and went on to earn her doctorate from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1979. Her doctoral thesis, titled Contribution to the Study of the Epigeous Diplopods of Catalonia, was the first comprehensive morphological, faunistic, and taxonomic study of diplopods in the region. The main findings were published in the journal Eos and became a key reference for specialists studying diplopods in the Iberian Peninsula.
In the academic and educational sphere, Dr. Vicente served as a professor at UAB from 1972 until 2000, initially as an assistant professor and later as a lecturer. She taught courses on general zoology and the zoology of arthropods, and she took on various roles within the Department of Animal Biology, Plant Biology, and Ecology.
As a zoological researcher, Dr. Vicente specialised in the morphology, taxonomy, and ecology of various groups of diplopods from the Iberian Peninsula. Her work resulted in numerous publications, many of which were co-authored with other myriapodologists. Additionally, she actively participated in multiple entomological activities and associations, including the Centre International de Myriapodologie.
Collection description: Dr. Vicente's personal legacy comprises 680 scientific articles in the form of offprints and 210 pieces of professional correspondence (1974-1990).
