Collectors and Directories
- AGRIS: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has provided support to its member countries to make their research outputs visible and accessible through the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS). The database indexes journal articles, monographs, books, book chapters, conference proceedings, grey literature (e.g., theses and dissertations, working papers, technical reports) and datasets on a range of topics pertaining to food and agriculture.
- Base (2004): Promoted by Bielefeld University Library, this platform gathers academic resources in open access and is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
- Catalònica: A portal that provides access to the digital collections of Catalonia. It indexes both born-digital and digitised materials found in libraries, archives, museums, and other institutions, including books, magazines, newspapers, manuscripts, incunabula, scores, sounds, audiovisuals, objects, paintings, photographs, and much more, forming part of the cultural memory and knowledge generated in Catalonia.
- Core: An open access content aggregator for scientific documents, managed by the Open University and Jisc. It collects open access articles and full-text resources from thousands of journals and repositories (institutional and thematic) worldwide.
- Europeana (2008): An EU project that links to 4,6 million digital documents, including images, texts, sounds, and videos. Some are world-famous, while others are hidden treasures from European museums, galleries, archives, libraries, and audiovisual collections.
- Hispana (2006): An advanced resource for accessing digital information produced by Spanish institutions, formed through the interconnection of their databases. It provides access to 1,047,007 digital objects from 111 repositories.
- Merlot (1997): A repository that offers thousands of open learning materials and provides content creation tools led by an international community of educators, students, and researchers.
- NDLTD: The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations is an international organization that provides records of theses and dissertations including links to the full text. Registry information is collected from universities around the world. The NDLTD is an international organization dedicated to promoting the adoption, creation, use, dissemination and preservation of electronic theses and dissertations (ETD). Its main objective is to support electronic publication and open access to studies in order to improve global knowledge exchange.
- OAIster (2002): A project from the University of Michigan aimed at creating a collection of easily accessible academic digital resources. It contains nearly 23 million records, including e-books, journal articles, audio files, and images. Since 2011, it has been integrated into OCLC WorldCat, the largest collective catalogue in the world.
- OpenAIRE (2014): A platform that integrates the DRIVER project (Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research), which collects scientific publications from European repositories. It hosts over 1 million documents from 250 repositories in 29 countries.
- Recolecta (2008): A repository sponsored by the Fundación para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) and the Red Bibliotecas Universitarias Española (REBIUN), which collects freely accessible scientific output from various institutional repositories across Spain.
- La Referencia, the Federated Network of Institutional Repositories of Scientific Publications: A Latin American network of open access repositories, supporting national open access strategies in the region. It provides a platform with interoperability standards, sharing, and increasing visibility for scientific production from higher education and research institutions.
