Janice Monk (March 13, 1937 - July 12, 2024)
Teacher, friend, colleague and unconditional support of the Geography and Gender Research Group of the Autonomous University of Barcelona since its beginnings.
Promoter of Geography and Gender in the world and mentor of several generations of female geographers from Catalonia and around the world. She was Honoris Causa of the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2013 in recognition of her contribution to the development of geography and gender and social and cultural geography at the international level, as well as her close and valuable collaboration with the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Since the eighties of the twentieth century Dr. Monk had a relationship of scientific and personal exchange with the Research Group on Geography and Gender through its director, Dr. Maria Dolors Garcia Ramon and the other members. Dr. Garcia Ramon made the keynote speech introducing Dr. Monk at the investiture ceremony at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters on October 16, 2013. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.
