Conference "Urban exodus and rural renaissance? Internal migrations from cities and the rural world during the Covid-19 pandemic", by Joaquín Recaño, professor of Human Geography at the Department of Geography of the Autonomous University of Barcelona and associate researcher at the Center for Demographic Studies.

During the hardest times of the Covid-19 pandemic, a dominant discourse was installed in the media, with wide repercussion in society: the appearance of a notable urban exodus and a growth of rural areas, affected until then by intense depopulation processes. This discourse of residential change, built from the accumulation of small stories, was not, however, cemented with statistically rigorous data. In this conference we will evaluate what has been the real impact of the pandemic on internal migration from cities and rural areas with information collected by the National Institute of Statistics between 2020 and 2021.
