The UAB renews its HR Excellence in Research
The European Commission has awarded the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona the renewal of the HR Excellence in Research label in the framework of the EURAXESS initiative. The HR Excellence in Research logo identifies European organisations that work to achieve a better research environment in accordance with the European Charter for Researchers, especially with regard to people and working conditions.
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has renewed the HR Excellence in Research label within the framework of the EURAXESS Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) initiative of the European Commission. Since 2008, the action has been supporting research institutions in the process of implementing the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The Charter is a set of principles underpinning the development of attractive research careers to support excellence in research and innovation across Europe and addresses research staff at all stages of their career, taking into account the multiple roles they assume, such as supervision, mentoring, management or administration tasks.
Institutions that manage to implement these principles are awarded the HR Excellence in Research label, with a commitment to continue working for the continuous improvement of professional research careers and environment to achieve a better research context, especially in terms of people and working conditions. To obtain the label, institutions must develop a short- and medium-term action plan with aspects such as research ethics, inclusiveness, open science, transparency, working conditions, training and career support for research staff. Every three years, an evaluation is carried out by experts from the European Commission and the HR logo can only be obtained or renewed with a positive evaluation of the action plan and the actions actually carried out.
In 2014, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona was one of the first universities in Spain to initiate this implementation process and to obtain the distinction. Since then it has been implementing the improvements and has always achieved a very good assessment in successive evaluations.
