Clara Almazán and Adrián Pérez, awarded at the I Research Conference of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology for their contributions on weight stigma and the mental health of healthcare professionals.

The evaluation panel of the I Research Conference of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology, composed of three professors from the department, selected the oral presentations by Clara Almazán and Adrián Pérez as winners in the categories “Young Researchers” and “Professors”, respectively.

Clara Almazán is a predoctoral student and a member of the Research Group on Eating and Weight-Related Problems (PRAP). She combines research with clinical practice, and her presentation at the conference, titled “Weight stigma and disordered eating in adolescents: a longitudinal study”, showcased some results from the WB-Sad project. Among the highlights were the high prevalence of weight-related stigma among adolescents and the predictive effect of internalized stigma on body dissatisfaction and disordered eating behaviors over a two-year period. The presentation emphasized the need to develop preventive strategies to mitigate the negative effects of stigma and promote the overall health of adolescents.

Adrián Pérez is an assistant professor in the department and a member of the AGORA Group (Psychological Research in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain). His presentation shared part of the findings from the MINDxYOU project, in which he collaborated during his postdoctoral stage at the Aragon Institute of Health Research. The MINDxYOU program is an online intervention aimed at reducing stress and promoting the mental health of healthcare professionals. The study, involving over 350 workers from hospitals and other healthcare centers in Aragon and the province of Málaga, showed positive results regarding the intervention’s effectiveness and treatment adherence. The presentation highlighted the need to complement these findings with a study on the implementation of the online program, with the aim of making it a widely used tool beyond the scope of the current study.

The winners of the conference will receive registration to a congress of their choice as a prize.
