The UAB Bioinorgànic group research group organises a demonstration activity for the implementation of a probiotic to improve the nutritional quality of feed and the balance of the microbiota of farmed snails in the reproduction phase (ref 53 30119 2021 2A).
Objective
The main objective is to achieve better hygiene and sanitation of snail farms at the breeding stage, in order to improve animal welfare and consequently farm performance, through the use of probiotic-enriched feed.
Description of the project
The demonstration activity is aimed at developing an innovative product that helps the microbiological control and health of farm snails. This is essential in a sector such as Heliciculture that does not have access to approved medicines. Therefore, adding value to snail nutrition feed by adding a probiotic to improve the health status of farm animals and the economic results of farms is a necessary innovation. This is why we have chosen, with this demonstration activity, to implement this innovative idea by means of a trial in real snail breeding production in the maternity phase.
