Resolution of extraordinary awards of the doctorate programme in Chemistry (theses 2021-22)
CALL FOR EXTRAORDINARY DOCTORATE AWARDS IN CHEMISTRY THESES DEFENDED DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021-22
The Doctoral Commission, meeting on 20 June 2023, has awarded the extraordinary prize for theses of the doctoral programme in Chemistry defended during the academic year 2021-22, to the following doctors:
- Boix I Soler, Gerard
- del Pozo Carvajal, Cristina
- Enrique Romero, Joan
- García-Risco Aguado, Mario-Emilio
- Herrera Chacón, Anna
- Motiram Corral, Kumar
- Norjmaa, Gantulga

I. ELIGIBLE THESES:
The call is open for theses defended from 1st of October 2021 to 30th of September 2022, corresponding to the academic year 2021-22. All students having obtained the PhD degree are eligible.
II. RESUME AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
Candidates can submit their scientific resume by using the standardised form, together with a copy of supporting documents (certificate of contributions to national or international congresses, patents, etc.). Supporting documents already added to the candidate's doctoral online record (sigm@) prior to thesis deposit, will not be required again; the candidate must just refer to them in his/her scientific resume.
Both, the form and supporting documents must be submitted to the Department of Chemistry, by email, to: gestio.postgrau.quimica@uab.cat .
III. CALENDAR
- Application term open from March 20th to April 24th, 2023.
- Doctoral School Permanent Board approval of the committee’s proposal: June 2023.
- Ceremony of Outstanding thesis Awards: November 2023.
IV. COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE
The committee will be made up of three full members, all doctors with accredited research experience:
Full members:
President: Dr. Gregori Ujaque (Dept. Chemistry UAB)
Secretary: Dr. Laia Francas Forcada (Dept. Chemistry UAB)
Vocal: Dr. Inhar Imaz Gabilondo (ICN2)
V. EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR THE SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS
- Original papers published in scientific journals: They will be scored considering the journal's impact factor. Each contribution will score twice the impact factor. The score for each applicant's contribution will be divided by N, where N is the candidate's position in the list of authors. If the list is in alphabetical order, the thesis supervisor must specify the candidate's level of participation.
- Patents: A distinction will be made between patents in explotation (40 points) and nonexplotation patents (4 points).
- Papers at conferences: a distinction will be made between oral communications (6 points), flash (3 points) and posters (1 point).
- Other contributions: international research component (menció europea), book chapters, scientific dissemination, etc... They may account for up to 10 points.
VI. AWARD’S PROPOSAL
The committee will evaluate the scientific contributions of each thesis according to the evaluation criteria. Candidates will be ranked from the highest to the lowest score and they will be awarded accordingly.
Only scientific production related specifically to the thesis will be considered.
The evaluation committee can propose a maximum of 7 awards for academic year 2021-22 (32 theses defended).
VII. AWARD’S APPROVAL
The UAB’s Permanent Board for Doctoral studies will approve the committee’s proposal of award recipients for the academic year 2021-22.
