Josep Castells and Marcial Moreno-Mañas Awards 2023 Award Ceremony

The Department of Chemistry is hosting the presentation ceremony of the Josep Castells and Marcial Moreno-Mañas 2023 Prizes, awarded by the Catalan Section of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry. The ceremony will take place on 19 June 2024, at 11.00h, in the auditorium of the Faculties of Science.
The Marcial Moreno 2023 Prize, awarded to researchers under the age of 40, has been granted to Dr. Marc Garcia-Borràs, from the IQCC-University of Girona. Dr. Marc Garcia-Borras will give a lecture entitled ‘Expanding Biocatalytic Functions through Precision Confinement’.
The Josep Castells Prize, awarded to final year PhD students, has been granted to Dr. Jaume Ramon Otaegui, who completed his doctoral thesis at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and Dr. Laia Vicens i Serra, who completed her doctoral thesis at the University of Girona. Dr. Jaume Ramon Otaegui will give a lecture entitled ‘New optical systems based on organic phase change materials: from fluorochromic inks and sensors to smart windows’ and Dr. Laia Vicens i Serra will give a lecture entitled ‘Implementing amino acids in biologically inspired manganese-catalyzed oxidations: γ-lactonization and ligand design’.
Jaume Ramón Otaegui won the Josep Castells award for the best PhD in Chemistry in 2023. He did his PhD in the Department of Chemistry and Catalan Institute of Nanotechnology and Nanoscience, ICN2, under the supervision of Prof. Jordi Hernando and Prof. Claudio Roscini.
