Training
Human error and poor technical skills can compromise the best safeguards.
One of the functions of the IBC is "to promote activities that provide training and information on biological safety within the UAB" (article 3, section L of the internal regulations of the IBC). Consequently, a biosafety training programme has been established with the aim of ensuring that all members of the university community handling biological agents receive sufficient and appropriate training (both theoretical and practical) to enable them to identify biological risks and to know and practice preventive and protective measures to minimise them. This training is required both when joining the organisation (initial training) and at subsequent intervals (continuous professional development).
