Internships

The internships are a postgraduate training program aimed at veterinary graduates who wish to deepen their knowledge and acquire experience in the small animal clinic or equine clinic. They are a very valuable training to improve professionally before joining the labor market and essential for all those veterinarians who aspire to continue with a residency program.

During the 12 months of the internship, the students of the course go through the different clinical services of the hospital to familiarize themselves with different specialties of veterinary medicine at the hands of the best professionals, including 18 European and American graduates and 16 residents. The internship program requires the exclusive dedication of the intern.

In parallel to the rotations for the different clinical services, the interns perform night and weekend shifts. They also participate in the training of students for the veterinary degree and the veterinary technical assistant course.

In addition to his immersion in clinical practice, the intern receives theoretical training in the form of seminars, theoretical-practical sessions, discussion of scientific articles and clinical cases, etc.

Residences

Official residences are the only internationally recognized specialization route in veterinary medicine. All the residency programs of the FHCV have been approved by the respective European Colleges and enable the resident to take the Diploma exam in the specialty.

The Fundació Hospital Clínic Veterinari offers 18 resident places in 10 clinical specialties. The duration of a residency is a minimum of 3 years, although in some cases it may vary.

The minimum requirements to qualify for a residency include having a degree in veterinary medicine, having done a one-year internship in a prestigious hospital, mastering the Catalan or Spanish languages and English for good oral and written communication and being able to join the College of Veterinarians of Barcelona.
