Doctoral studies in Animal Medicine and Health are organized by the Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery and the Department of Animal Health and Anatomy of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. These studies are heirs to the doctorate program in Medicine and Animal Health, which at the time received the mention of quality awarded by the Ministry of Education. Likewise, this doctorate is integrated into the official postgraduate program of Veterinary and Food Sciences, which also enjoys the quality mention of the Ministry.

Doctoral studies in Animal Medicine and Health include two options: Animal Medicine and Surgery and Animal Health. They are aimed at the training of researchers, with an emphasis on research methodology and techniques, and conclude with the preparation of the doctoral thesis. Doctoral studies also aim to consolidate the diversity of approaches and the balance between basic and applied research, so that a rich intellectual atmosphere is possible, a necessary condition for the quality of doctoral research.
