Modeling and characterizing behavioral and neuroinmunoendocrine phenotypes related to the process of aging or those characteristics of neurodegenerative or neurological disorders. This challenge is relevant in order to provide research tools to study the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiological events and to assess the potential of pharmacological and non-pharmacological preventive and therapeutical strategies.
• Establisment of the colonies of 3xTg-AD and wild-type mice. Behavioral characterization of cognitive and BPSD-like symptoms in animal models of aging and dementia.
• Behavioral assessment of non-pharmacological (handling, enrichment, exercice) preventive and therapeutical strategies in human patients and animal models of aging and neurodegenerative disorders, with special focus in our colonies of 3xTg-AD mice.
• Behavioral pharmacology of NMDA-DA-Adenosine interactions in animal models for psychitaruc and neurologic disorders.he research activity of our group is focused on the development of gene therapy strategiesr affecting the nervous system, both central (lysosomal storage diseases) and peripheral (pain, genetic and acquired neuropathies) and on the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms implicated in the development of these pathologies combining the use of animal models, tissue cell culture and viral vectors.
Our research is focused on behavioral Neuroscience (behavioral screening, behavioral pharmacology and non-pharmacological approaches) with a ‘bed-to-bench’ and ‘bench-to-bed’ translational view. We are also interested in the social and intergenerational relationships in the human being and their impact on the well-being of the elderly. An issue that we also try to address from basic research.
