Our research focuses, broadly, on cognitive and affective processes that ultimately lead to conscious experience. Which brain organization and dynamics underlie these processes? How are they affected in mental disorders? We ask these questions in the context of new perspectives of perception and action collectively known as predictive processing. Such perspectives propose that the brain is not passively waiting to receive sensory input through the different peripheral sensors (retina, cochlea, etc.) but it constantly anticipates what will happen next based on past experience. We have a multidisciplinary approach with different techniques, including behavior, noninvasive brain stimulation and neuroimaging.
