Zhu Zhiwei (Purdue University) will present his paper: "Data and Analytics in the Era of GAI: A Historical and Forward-Looking Perspective"

Abstract:

The rise of Generative AI (GAI) has sparked both excitement and inquiry about its tranformative impact across various fields. Since the core function of computing—and by extension, GAI—is analyzing data, a pivotal question arises: "How will GAI shape the future of data analytics?"

Drawing on extensive experience in both industry and academia, the speaker moves beyond immediate GAI applications to examine its foundational divergences from traditional analytics principles, such as statistical analysis. He contends that GAI is an expansion, not a replacement, of traditional data analytics, with both evolving side by side.  

This presentation, informed by the speaker’s recent applied research publications in Harvard Data Science Review and INFORMS Analytics Magazine, offers valuable insights into the enduring impact of GAI. It aims to assist researchers, developers, and practitioners with strategic views to position themselves at the forefront of shaping the AI era.
