Abstract
Our research challenges the notion of crowdfunders as passive financiers by exploring the relationships between equity crowdfunding investment motives, encompassing emotional, expressive, and utilitarian aspects, and post-investment behaviours. Our results highlight the connection between investment motives and post-investment behaviours: emotional-thrill and expressive motives are associated with active involvement; utilitarian and emotional-support motives are primarily linked to passive behaviour. We also find that active involvement is more pronounced among experienced and older investors. By uncovering the varied nature of investors’ motives and behaviours, we offer valuable insights for enhancing engagement strategies and understanding the dynamics of the equity crowdfunding ecosystem.
