Andreu Turró (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) will present his paper “Management practices in the allocation of innovative entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship across countries”, joint work with Jairo Orozco (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Coen Rigtering (Utrech School of Economics) and David Urbano (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
Abstract
• Objectives: This article focuses on analyzing to what extent management practices across countries affect the mode of opportunity entrepreneurship exploitation by individuals.
• Theoretical framework: Institutional Economics.
• Methodology: Sample of 201.267 individuals across 20 countries from developed and developing countries. We use GEM Data, World Management Survey, and Hofstede Database of cultural dimensions (2014-2015-2016). A maximum-likelihood self-selection probit model is used to correct for non-random self-selection into innovative entrepreneurial activity.
• Results/Implications: The main findings highlight the fact that different combinations of management practices indicators may result in different intensities and forms of entrepreneurial activity within a country. Consequently, countries may be characterized by distinct sets of management practices that favour one type of entrepreneurial activity over another. This study contributes to the literature of management and entrepreneurship and provides useful insight for policymakers.
