7 CVC Researchers in the Top 2% Most Cited Globally by the Stanford University Ranking

Stanford University, in collaboration with Elsevier-Scopus, has recently updated the results of the study of the most-cited authors in the world. This global ranking considered one of the most prestigious, is based on bibliometric information collected from the Scopus database (published by Elsevier), updated to the end of the citation year 2023, and includes the top 2 % of the more than 10 million researchers considered to be active worldwide.

To compile this list, Scopus data is analysed, evaluating parameters such as the number of citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, and more. The ranking provides two lists: one reflecting researchers' citation impact throughout their entire careers and another one highlighting their citation impact in the previous year (2023). Metrics with and without self-citations, as well as the ratio of citations to citing papers, are presented. Scientists are categorized into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, following the standard Science-Metrix classification.

CVC researchers distinguish themselves within the "Information and Communication Technologies" field, particularly in the "Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing" sub-field, where they are positioned among 399.065 authors.

The featured CVC researchers in this latest update include:

 

• Dr Sergio Escalera. Ranked 2.539 (career-long) and 1.522 (single-year 2023) out of 399.065 authors in the AI subfield. He is Full Professor and ICREA Academia at the University of Barcelona (UB) and CVC researcher. He leads the Human Pose Recovery and Behavior Analysis group (HuPBA Lab) and his research areas include, statistical pattern recognition, affective computing, and human pose recovery and behavior understanding.

 

• Dr Joost van de Weijer. Ranked 2.815 (career-long) and 1.804 (single-year 2023) out of 399.065 authors in the AI subfield. His research focuses on active learning, continual learning, transfer learning, domain adaptation, and generative models. Dr Joost van de Weijer is a Senior Researcher at CVC and leader of the Learning and Machine Perception Lab (LAMP). His research is mainly focused on active learning, continual learning, transfer learning, domain adaptation and generative models.

 

• Dr Dimosthenis Karatzas. Ranked 4.881 (career-long) and 2.716 (single-year 2023) out of 399.065 authors in the AI subfield. He is Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and associate director of the CVC, where he leads the Vision and Language research group. His main research interests are computer vision and machine learning, and in particular robust reading systems, document image analysis, human-document interaction, and human perception modeling.

 

• Dr Antonio M Lopez. Ranked 5.386 (career-long) and 5.213 (single-year 2023) out of 399.065 authors in the AI subfield. He is Senior Researcher at CVC and ICREA Academia Full Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He is leading the Autonomous Driving group and carries an extensive career as a researcher in different subfields of artificial intelligence such as computer vision, simulation, machine learning, and autonomous driving.

 

• Dr Jorge Bernal. Ranked 6.266 in the AI subfield in the single year ranking. He is Principal Investigator of the Image Sequence Evaluation group at Computer Vision Center (CVC) and Professor at the Computer Science Department in the UAB. His main research activity focuses on the development of intelligent systems in the context of assisting clinical interventions, specifically in developing image processing methods for colonoscopy.

 

• Dr Angel D. Sappa. Ranked 6.017 in the AI subfield in the career-long ranking. Dr Angel D. Sappa is Full Professor at the ESPOL Polytechnic University and senior researcher at CVC, where is a member of the MultiSpectral Image Analysis & Understanding group. His research interests encompass stereo image processing and analysis, 3-D modeling, and cross/multi-spectral imaging.

 

• Dr Josep Lladós. Ranked 8.094 in the AI subfield in the single year ranking. He is the director of the Computer Vision Center and he leads the Document Analysis group at CVC. He is Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and his main research interests are computer vision and machine learning, and in particular robust reading systems and document image analysis.
