Bachelor's Degree in English and Catalan Studies

This facilitates entering the workforce in any profession related to languages and multilingualism in any country of the European Union, such as the teaching of English and/or Catalan and cultural mediation, as well as in highly qualified business, tourist and other cultural professions, etc.

This degree offers students the possibility to enrol in a specialisation in Linguistics, Comparative Literature or a third language (German, Italian, Galician or Basque).

The degree is programmed by the Departments of English and German and of Catalan, making it an ideal setting for the organisation of this type of interdisciplinary studies.

Career options

- Teaching and the production of didactic materials in both public and private institutions.
- Translation and interpreting; multilingual institutional communication in companies, publishing houses, libraries and language departments.

"Off-campus Traineeship" is an elective subject offered to students in their fourth year. Students have the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired during their studies, in a professional work context that implies the use of advanced level English.

Coordinator: Sebastià Giralt Soler

Off-campus Traineeship is offered in two different ways:
  1. As a work experience with a collaborating institution off campus. The internship is formalized through a specific agreement signed by the student, the collaborating institution and the UAB, which defines the conditions and gives details of the student's work plan.
  2. As a work / academic experience offered within the Department of English and German Studies (for example, helping in a recognised research project of the UAB, etc.). Internships are formalized through a specific agreement between the student, the department, and the UAB, which defines the conditions and gives details of the student's work plan.
In both cases, the subject carries 6 ECTS credits, which the student can obtain by completing:

·         Practical work with a collaborating institution: 125h
·         Final written report: 7.5h
·         Regular tutorials with the coordinator: 10h.
·         Training for workplace insertion: 7.5h

For more details, consult the Teaching Guide for Off-campus Traineeship.
