What is the purpose of this degree and on what is it based?

The Bachelor's Degree in Criminology aims to train professionals equipped with scientific skills in the field of crime.

  • You will study the crime, the offender, the victim and the social control of crime.
  • You will learn to design and apply crime prevention and intervention plans and can choose to orient your work towards rehabilitation or attending to victims.  
  • You will learn how to conduct research, interpret studies and assess them.

Additionally, you will build up and foster your critical thinking and ethical commitment.

Have a look at the degree's two specialisations: Criminal Justice and Prevention and Security. The latter specialisation offers the possibility of obtaining a diploma as Director of Private Security.

Of course! The degree offers a series of work placements representing a complete set of professional criminologist areas.

Career options

Criminology is of interest to a whole set of professional fields related to delinquency, given that scientific knowledge on the prevention and response of crime works towards improving the effectiveness of all crime fighting sectors and agencies. More particularly:
  • With regard to prevention and security, knowledge on criminology must serve to contribute to the development of police and private security management tasks on prevention, protection and conflict resolution, within the educational and municipal environment in order to develop research tasks on prevention and protection within the public and private institutions.
    Analysis and explanation of problems with crime.
    Analysis and explanation of the perception of insecurity and fear of delinquency.
    Design and implementation of prevention programmes.
  • With regard to criminal justice, knowledge on criminology must serve to form part of the judicial system services as a delegate of sentencing services, in the management of offender rehabilitation and reinsertion, as well as to conduct research within the public and private institutions. Technical assessment to lawyers, judges and prosecutors: you will be able to attend to victims and evaluation programmes within the judicial system.
