ICTA-UAB launches new visual identity
ICTA-UAB’s updated visual identity reflects the center’s bold environmental research on urgent issues, capturing the essence of its renewed vision and values with the new tagline: Brave Science for a Changing World.
At ICTA-UAB we believe that scientific excellence is as much about producing knowledge as it is about communicating it. Scientific institutions must also stay relevant if they want to engage with and impact society.
The world evolves, so does science
The new visual identity for ICTA-UAB communicates our vision and approach as a research center: its bold research on solutions to contemporary global problems, its unique integration of the natural and social sciences, and its commitment to justice and equity. It also marks an important turning point in its trajectory, manifested by its exponential growth in recent years and its remarkable track record for scientific excellence over the last decade.
An updated logo
The new logo maintains identifying elements such as the font family and the circular shapes that compose it, but synthesizes the whole to make it more identifiable, memorable and modern. The new symbol evokes notions of the planet, the environment, society, equality, technology and precision, while the bold neon green is a shade commonly associated with nature, energy, vitality, courage and cutting-edge technology. Its brightness makes it stand out, representing innovation and forward thinking.
"Brave Science for a Changing World"
As part of this rebranding, ICTA-UAB developed a tagline to encapsulate its recently revised vision of “empowering society with science to address global socio-environmental challenges”. Brave Science for a Changing World succinctly captures the context, spirit and intention of ICTA-UAB’s scientific mission while highlighting the center’s most pioneering qualities:
- Cutting-edge interdisciplinary research
- Commitment to society and equity
- Brave solutions that challenge the status-quo
- Demanding policy action from decision-makers
Design and applications
The rebranding of ICTA-UAB’s visual identity was developed by PFP Disseny, a Catalán graphic design studio whose clients include the Ajuntament de Barcelona, CCCB, and Museu de Cièncias Naturals.
The corporate color is Pantone 802. While green was chosen for its traditional association with the environment, the “brave” neon shade is particularly suited for digital media. The previous font, Helvetica Neue, is replaced by the font Helvetica Now, for its increased neutrality, modernity and legibility. In addition to the new logo, PFP developed a style manual that includes a broad range of formats and applications for print, digital and social media, and a color palette that identifies the 5 Social Challenges of ICTA-UAB’s research framework (Oceans, Land, Cities, Consumption and Policies).
Coexistence with partner logos
The new ICTA-UAB logo is a stand-alone logo that should be used alongside the official UAB logo (and other logos as needed) as shown below.
