MEMEnginy technology fair reaches its 10th edition
Some 70 technology companies, public administrations, and organisations related to the ICT sector will be attending the MEMEnginy technology fair at the UAB School of Engineering. The event will take place on 25 April and this year marks its 10th edition, with a record number of companies and entities participating. Some 2,000 students will also be participating in a day in which the Internet of Things, green technology, artificial intelligence and data management will take central stage.
Beyond Collapse, a show that fuses electronic music, art and technology, led by two cyborg DJs, who also offer a reflection on the ethical implications of the excessive use of technology.
The MEMEnginy technology congress, organised by the School of Engineering's Student Council with the support of the centre, began in 2014 with the participation of 4 companies, and has grown each year until reaching its 10th edition with a total of 70 companies and entities. It is estimated that in these 10 years over 5,000 students have participated in the congress.
With the objective of connecting the young ICT talent at the UAB with the professional world, the fair has been transforming alongside the evolution of technology and the labour market. In this 10th edition the areas present will be the Internet of Things (IoT), green tech, artificial intelligence and data management, areas with a growing demand for professionals.
The programme is divided into three sectors: an entities fair, conferences and networking sessions. Among the companies participating this year are: NTT DATA, Roche Farma España, BertIA, Deloitte, Glovo, Indra, Schneider Electric, SDG Group España, SEIDOR, Semidynamics and SiPearl.
La MEMEnginy obrirà les portes de la fira d’entitats a les 10 del matí fins les 18 h de la tarda. Hi haurà més de 70 expositors. Els estudiants podran parlar directament amb els responsables de recursos humans i professionals de l’enginyeria de les empreses presents.
The inauguration will take place on Thursday 25 April at 10:30 a.m. at the School of Engineering of the Bellaterra campus. The event will consist of speeches by the rector of the UAB, Javier Lafuente, the director of the School of Engineering, Ian Blanes, and student Ariadna Garnica, from the Engineering Student Council. The attendants will then been invited to take a tour of the fair's facilities.
The MEMENginy entities fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be more than 70 exhibitors. Students will be able to speak directly with human resources managers and engineering professionals from the companies present.
Conferences, activities and workshops
To kick off the MEMEnginy, Brais Moure (mouredev.com), a leading streamer in the world of programming, will offer a live coding workshop (Live Coding). At the end of the day attednants will be able to enjoy Beyond Collapse, a show that fuses electronic music, art and technology, led by two cyborg DJs, who also offer a reflection on the ethical implications of the excessive use of technology.
The conferences will include professionals who will explain, for example, how engineers use data to improve attendance at a museum in Barcelona, how they use artificial intelligence or how they develop process automation.
As for the activities, the documentary The Brain Roads will be screened, where researchers from the Computer Vision Centre explain the creation of an autonomous vehicle that drives through rural areas. There will also be visits to the centre's chemical engineering laboratories.
Another activity will offer students the opportunity to present their projects or innovations to the company CONNECTA, which in collaboration with the UAB Parc de Recerca s looking for entrepreneurs with ideas to develop.
Finally, the appliance company Bosch as well as several others will offer workshops on technology used in consumer electronics and other products.
