The Barcelona City Council's project B-MINCOME to fight against poverty, combining financial support to households in risk and active inclusion policies, received an award in the category of Local Development from the Innovation in Politics Awards 2024.

The pilot project to fight poverty and inequality, which has been deployed in ten neighbourhoods of the Besós River axis of Barcelona, was carried out with the participation of the Institute of Government and Public Policy (IGOP) of the UAB. B-MINCOME fights poverty and combines financial support to vulnerable households with active inclusion policies.

This scheme benefited from the EU's Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) programme. Developed between 2016 and 2019, it aimed to test the efficiency and effectiveness of combining a minimum income (municipal inclusion support) with four active inclusion policies (training and employment, social entrepreneurship, housing and community action).

The IGOP-UAB took part in three tasks: the monitoring and evaluation of the community action policy, the analysis of the implementation of the policy as a whole, and the integration of all the evaluations of the project with the preparation of a final report on the results.

The project received the award on May 2 at the Barcelona Maritime Museum as part of the Innovation in Politics Awards ceremony, which recognises public initiatives from across Europe that have a positive impact on people's lives and strengthen democracy. They are organised by the Innovation in Politics Institute and are awarded by a citizen jury with more than one thousand members from all over Europe.
